This program of persuasive technology explores a dynamic, interdisciplinary field of research that focuses on the design, development and evaluation of interactive technologies that use persuasion and social influence techniques to influence people’s behavior. It is used in any area of human-human or human-computer interaction and it is applicable to sales, diplomacy, politics, religion, military training, public health, and management. The design of persuasive technologies can be seen as a particular case of design with intent. The ultimate goal is to encourage the adoption of healthy habits.

This course focuses on the legal issues confronting the participants in Cyberspace. Whether considered as a Virtual Space, the Internet, or simply the Web, Cyberspace embodies a challenging interaction of law, public policy, technology, and market. In the context of cyber culture and technology, this course examines the key contemporary procedural and issues including jurisdiction, governmental regulation of pornography and indecency, privacy, intellectual property, and evolving Internet commerce. It also focuses on the investigation and prosecution of computer crimes.

This course of fake news examines the untrue information presented as news. Fake news are those stories that are fabricated, with no (sometimes partial or decontextualized) verifiable facts, sources or quotes. Fake news nurture a larger ecosystem of disinformation. They may have the aim of damaging the reputation of a person or entity, create propaganda to mislead the reader, or may be designed as “clickbait” written for economic incentives. The prevalence of fake news has proliferated via social media, because they are so easily and quickly shared online.

Digital Privacy
This course of digital privacy examines the rights of individuals to determine how their digital information is collected and used, to exist freely on the internet, and to choose what types of information they are exposed to. In this context, communication privacy states the right to communicate information digitally with the expectation that those communications are secure and only accessible to the sender's original intended recipient. Digital Privacy encompasses information privacy, communication privacy, and individual privacy.

This course of technology ethics explores the application of ethical thinking to the practical concerns of the use of technology. New technologies give us more power to act, which means that we have to make choices we didn't have to make before. Some ethical dilemmas derived from technology are: digital addiction (many people are addicted to technology), breakdown of truth (it’s becoming harder to tell what’s real and what isn’t); ideological polarization; manipulation through persuasive technology, and many other mental and emotional issues derived from the excessive impact and dependency of the use of technology.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education

 

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma.
