This program of astrophysics explores the scientific study of the universe. It builds on astronomy by applying physics and chemistry to explain the birth, life and death of stars, planets, galaxies, nebulae and other elements and phenomena in the universe. Astrophysics seek to describe the origin of the universe as well as dark matter, black holes, the existence of the multiverse and more.

This course examines the structure and evolutionary histories of galaxies, stellar populations, galactic dynamics, dark matter, and galactic structure and mass distributions. It also reviews different cosmological models to explain the universe.

This course examines the theories on the nature of light. It considers the corpuscular model, the light undulant model, wave surface concept, quantic and dual models, and the energetic model. It examines parallel and divergent light hazes impacting on a surface: reflection and refraction.

Stellar Systems
This course studies the origin, properties, and evolution of stars. It reviews massive stars beyond helium burning, white dwarf stars, novae, supernovae, and other high energy stellar phenomena, stellar nuclear reaction, and the origin and production of all the chemical elements.

Relativity
This course studies curved space-time and the Einstein field equations. It examines general relativity theory and its application to cosmological models.

Optics
This course examines the luminous beam concepts and refraction index. It deals with the origin of the refraction index and chromatic dispersion. It considers the laws of optics for homogeneous means and isotrops, some applications of the Fermat principle, the theorem of Malus-Dupin, the theory of optical representation, optical systems, object, and image.

This course of astronomy studies galaxies, stars, planets, and an ever-increasing variety of phenomena observed from ground and space-based observatories. Areas of special interest include cosmology, the formation and evolution of stars and galaxies, high-energy astrophysics, active galaxies, supernovae and nucleo-synthesis, the motions of stars and galaxies, and all aspects of observational optical and infrared astronomy.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education
This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma.
