This program of marine biology deals with the scientific study of marine life, including all the organisms in the sea ranging from the microscopic plankton to the big fishes. Marine biology classifies species based on the environment rather than on taxonomy. A large proportion of all life on Earth lives in the ocean, a complex three-dimensional world covering approximately 70% of the planet's surface, where many species and organisms are still unknown.

This course explores the natural history, functional morphology, ecology, distribution, habitat, adaptation, trophic interrelationships, and evolution of marine animals. It shows comparative morphology and biology of marine invertebrates, as well as the morphological, physiological, behavioral, and ecological diversity of fishes of the world.

This course of marine ecosystems explores the habitats that complete the largest system from the shores to the dark sea floor. The marine ecosystem includes: marshes, tidal zones, estuaries, the mangrove forest, lagoons, sea grass beds, the sea floor, and the coral reefs. Just like every other ecosystem in the world, the aquatic ecosystems rely on each other for maintaining a balanced marine ecosystem.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education
This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma.
