Diversity in Animals
This course presents the morphological, functional, and ecological diversity within the major phyla of animals. It surveys the ontogeny, function and behavior in a variety of species, and their interaction with the environment.
Academic Supervisor: José Luis Corona Lisboa
Animal Reproduction
This course deals with the reproductive mechanisms, environmental influences on reproductive endocrinology, physiology, behavior, and ecology of vertebrates. Discussions extend from organismal to cellular level and focus on the diversity of reproductive patterns among animals. It considers the effects of temperature, oxygen, and other environmental factors on the distribution and abundance of animals; as well as habitat selection, food strategies, and mating systems in the organization of reproduction.
Academic Supervisor: José Luis Corona Lisboa
Anatomy of Vertebrates
This course compares the structure of vertebrate organ systems: integument, skeletal, muscle, digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, urinary, and reproductive. It emphasizes on evolutionary trends.
Academic Supervisor: Enrique Parra Crego
Animal Studies
This course of animal studies provides an interdisciplinary approach to the realities of nonhuman animals over time, across cultures, and across different ways of thinking, in order to understand the impact of humans on other animal species. Animals have been used in farms, as food resources, for hunting, for companion, for shows or scientific research.
Academic Supervisor: José Luis Corona Lisboa
Invertebrate Animals
This course examines the comparative biology and morphology of invertebrates, their structures, and functions. It deals with principles of animal organization, Protista, simpler multicellular animals, echinoderms, chordates, annelids and related worms, mollusks, and arthropods.
Academic Supervisor: Jorge Poveda Arias
Mollusks & Insects
This course presents the structure, classification, physiology, and ecology of mollusks and insects. It also considers the interrelationships of insects and man and their developmental processes and adaptations in diverse insect groups. It emphasizes hormonal control mechanisms in metamorphosis, polymorphism, regeneration, and genetic analysis of development.
Academic Supervisor: José Luis Corona Lisboa
Vertebrates
This course presents the biology of vertebrate animals and emphasizes their diversity, adaptations, and evolutionary history. It introduces the mechanisms and control of vertebrate behavior in an ecological context, as shaped by natural selection. It also considers the classical and current theories regarding the genetic basis of vertebrate development, specialized sensory systems, and the organization of responses in changing environments.
Academic Supervisor: José Luis Corona Lisboa
Bird & Mammal Conservation
This course presents the principles associated with management of birds and mammals in the wild while emphasizing on the ecology and management of their habitats. It examines the theory and methods of sampling and analyzing population and habitat data, estimation of population size, survival, recruitment, and habitat selection.
Academic Supervisor: José Luis Corona Lisboa
Animal Physiology
This course explores animal physiology at the levels of organisms and behavior, organ systems, and cells. It studies the metabolism, temperature, locomotion, osmoregulation, respiration, circulation, digestion, neurons, muscles, and hormones.
Academic Supervisor: Enrique Parra Crego
Biomechanics
This course analyzes body motion, motor learning, and performance. The principles of biomechanics are applied to: muscle mechanics, the evaluation of body motion efficiency, postural and soft tissue dynamics, and prescription exercise.
Academic Supervisor: Stefan Batran Aga
Animal Biology
This course examines the biological mechanisms that animals employ to survive in a diversity of environments; molecular, cellular, and physiological mechanisms are discussed in an evolutionary context that emphasizes animals adaptive responses. It reviews the underlying genetic and biochemical regulation of development considering developmental genetics and experimental embryology.
Academic Supervisor: Mohammad Athar
Zoology
This course completely and effectively covers biological principles, genetics, evolution, diversity, and the anatomy and physiology of animals. It also covers the mechanisms of animal behavior and its evolutionary causes, illustrating theoretical points with examples drawn from the studies of both vertebrates and invertebrates.
