This course presents both the theoretical and practical aspects of assessing environmental impact in order to support a policy that leads to the restoration and conservation of animal and plant diversity. It covers the structure and function of disturbed ecosystems and provides adequate the means to evaluate environmental degradation levels and the impact of human activity on environmental health and contamination.

This course reviews the control technologies used for management of air, water, and wastewater pollutants. This course presents inorganic and organic chemistry and chemical thermodynamics for the detection, transformation, and transport of contaminants in the environment, with emphasis on the chemical transformation reactions of pollutants. This course examines energy supply, conventional fuel reserves (coal, oil, natural gas), alternative sources (nuclear, solar, geothermal, etc.), and their corresponding pollution levels, economic, and environmental impacts. It presents current methods and technology for energy pollution control and the regulatory standards for environmental protection.

Water & Waste Sanitation
This course deals with waste sanitation and the environmental health problems concerning watersheds, water channels, river systems, and the sea. It examines waste impact on the hydrologic cycle and provides management solutions for modifying this impact on water quality, quantity, and use.

Solid Waste Management
This course examines the public health, environmental, economic, and materials conservation aspects of solid wastes management; amounts and sources of solid wastes; waste reduction and recycling; methods of storage, transportation, and disposal; and identification of present problems and future needs. It also reviews the current physical, chemical, and biological methods of solid and hazardous waste management and disposal.

This course examines the methods used to evaluate and manage the environmental impact and performance of businesses, products, and processes. In addition, it presents a multidisciplinary approach for identifying, evaluating, and managing risks from environmental contaminants and hazards, providing remediation strategies such monitoring, containment, in-situ remediation, and/or ex-situ treatment.

Environmental Risks
This course examines and compares different types of environmental risks and hazards from natural disasters (tornados, earthquakes, and meteorite impacts) to acute and chronic health effects caused by exposure to radiation and toxic substances. It emphasizes the principles controlling the hazardous phenomena and develops methods for making reasoned assessments of the threats impact to health and wealth.

This course examines and compares hazardous wastes and introduces the pertinent regulations. It discusses exposure pathways and management options at pre-generation, pre-release, and post-release stages, with emphasis on public health significance. It presents hazardous waste treatment technologies and physical, chemical, and biological treatment of toxic wastes.

This course explains the concepts and approaches to correct and alleviate the effects of environmental pollution. It examines the use of biological processes, as well as the biochemical, ecological, and physicochemical aspects for pollutant remediation and mitigation. This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma.
