Geotechnical Analysis
This course reviews the geotechnical testing, modelling, and analysis to evaluate prediction versus performance in geotechnical engineering. It also explores the role of rocks and soils as engineering materials, as well as the distribution of rocks at or below the surface; hydrologic influences, geologic exploration of engineering sites, mapping, underground excavations, slopes, reservoirs, and dam sites.

This course explores all issues related to drainage and irrigation including soil-water-plant relationships, theory of infiltration and evapotranspiration, saturated and unsaturated flow through soils, movement of chemicals in the vadose zone, the design of surface and subsurface drainage systems, design of sprinkler, trickle, and subsurface irrigation systems. It studies the management of irrigation systems in developing countries.

This course studies continuity, momentum, energy equations, laminar and turbulent flow in pipes, rheology, flow in porous media, filtration, and fluidization. This course introduces the main components of the hydrologic cycle including precipitation processes, evapotranspiration, soil water and groundwater flow, and surface water features. This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma.
