This course examines the principles and requirements of public water supply for the protection of public health. It covers topics related to the characterization of water quality and sources, water treatment, distribution systems, and health hazards, epidemiology, risk assessment, in addition to surveillance and regulatory needs to assure safe public water supplies.

Hygiene & Safety
This course introduces the principles of industrial and community hygiene and safety. It examines the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of hazards to health and safety. It covers control methods and hygiene sampling equipment. Also, it helps developing skills in occupational health and safety hazard recognition in a variety of cases.

Food Policy & Safety
This course examines all aspects of food safety and policy namely consumer perception of nutritional risk and the regulatory and legal issues of labeling, sanitation, and biotechnology. It addresses the role of public health in monitoring and assessing nutrition, the access to food, safe food supply, and national nutrition policy.

This course interprets health problems among various populations in multicultural settings. It compares health care systems in developing and industrialized countries in relation to other social systems; public/private component analyses; and health care methods and finance. It also examines major health problems of underdeveloped, developing, and emerging nations.

This course reviews current issues and methods in assessing a community nutritional status and risk profiles; planning, implementing, and evaluating nutrition programs; and the effects in epidemiological studies and chronic disease.

This course gives a historical account of roles played by government and health policy development for mothers and children, family planning, maternal and infant health, preschool, school-age, and adolescent health. It also addresses the biological mechanisms that underpin human reproduction, infertility, and contraception.

Gerontology Health Policy
This course explores biological, psychological, and social issues in aging; including cognitive change with age and the social impact of increasingly older population demographics. It provides a multidisciplinary approach to the health care needs of the elderly, namely medication use, nutrition, health care agencies, and roles of individual health care professionals.

Infectious Diseases
This course explores the methods used in epidemiology and their application to the critical appraisal of clinical, epidemiological, and health administration for evidence-based management of health care organizations, improvement of delivery of health services, and for creating health policies. An emphasis will be placed on understanding the relationships between the host, the parasite, and the environment in infectious disease investigations.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education
This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week.
