This course explains how visual arts have been influenced by, and how they have influenced, interacted with, defined, and been defined by other media, arts, technology and cultural trends. It examines how visual arts have moved from a marginal to a mainstream art form. It explores the nature of visual perception in everyday life and how the elements of visual imagery may combine to deliver a persuasive message.

This course describes suitable furniture for specific spaces. It covers construction details such as walls and floors, stairs, fireplaces, lighting, kitchen distribution, and woodwork. It also deals with decorative elements such the use of plants in interiors, audiovisual systems, security, color theory, window treatments, elevators, indoors sports areas, etc. It explains lighting principles and technologies and the appropriate selection of lighting effects.

XXth Century Art
This course provides a thematic and chronological survey of the major genres of artistic expression in the XXth century : Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, Futurism, Dadaism, and other artistic revolutions. It also covers the multiplication of new forms of art (video, performance pieces, land, and installation pieces), and new contexts of fashion design, publicity, and marketing in the XXth Century.

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail.
