This program in paleontology focuses on the study of ancient life, from dinosaurs to prehistoric plants, mammals, fish, insects, fungi, and even microbes. Fossil evidence reveals how organisms changed over time and what our planet was like long ago. Paleontology is the study of what fossils tell us about the ecologies of the past, about evolution, and about our place, as humans, in the world. Paleontology incorporates knowledge from different disciplines to understand the processes that have led to the origination and eventual destruction of the different types of organisms since life arose.

This course examines the broad range of primate behavior and what it means to be human. It depicts the trajectory of human evolution while emphasizing the biology and behavior of higher primates, like chimpanzees and gorillas. In tracing the evolution of an individual's own family, the Hominids, emphasis is placed on the interaction between cultural, environmental, and biological factors.

This course explores the early part of the prehistoric archaeological records in Africa and Eurasia, from 2,000,000 years ago until the spread of modern human beings; the development of stone and bone technologies; the ways of making a living; cultural adaptations; and intellectual and social development.

Physical Anthropology
This course covers the scope, method, and theory of physical anthropology, from evolutionary biology and primate behavior to forensics and paleontology. It concentrates on issues of growth, physiology, morphology, pathology, and behavioral patterns of the human condition in time and space.

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week.
