This course examines how literary forms and genres shape our reading of texts; how these forms and genres change over time; and how literary forms and genres manifest themselves in different cultural traditions. It focuses on different literary themes namely the motive of generational conflict, the human potential for both violence and compassion, death and transfiguration, and women.

This course illustrates the means of story-telling and integrates practical writer rules with theoretical models based on literary constructions. It explains the construction of a solid narrative combined with the creation of believable, compelling characters that propel that narrative forward. This course explores the question “How do children manage to learn language?” It introduces classic and contemporary theories of language acquisition. Topics include early speech perception; word learning; acquisition of phonology, morphology, and syntax; development of pragmatic and metalinguistic knowledge; and developmental change in language comprehension and production.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education
This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week.
