Analysis of Social Problems
This course examines social problems from three perspectives. Systemic problems: racial and sexual discrimination, inequality and poverty, militarization and war, ecological problems, overpopulation, urban and rural problems, and life cycle problems. Problems of specific institutions: government, economy, family, education, religion, and social services. Personal pathologies: mental illness, suicide, alcoholism, and drug addiction.

This course presents various forms of social organization in tribal societies, including kinship groupings such as family and clan, as well as groups organized by age and sex. It provides a cross-cultural and historical approach that connects family systems to society and culture.

This course examines the principles and requirements of public water supply for the protection of public health. It covers topics related to the characterization of water quality and sources, water treatment, distribution systems, and health hazards, epidemiology, risk assessment, in addition to surveillance and regulatory needs to assure safe public water supplies.

This course introduces the principles of industrial and community hygiene and safety. It examines the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of hazards to health and safety. It covers control methods and hygiene sampling equipment. Also, it helps developing skills in occupational health and safety hazard recognition in a variety of cases.

This course surveys housing and community development problems and standards. It explores issues of culture, political environment, social context, economic circumstances, and other factors which define and limit housing facilities and delivery. This course examines the role and importance of nonprofit non-governmental or global organizations in the development and support of social needs. It also considers the nature and the resources of the nonprofit sector; the structure, operation, and governance of nonprofit organizations; and the taxation, governmental, and institutional relations of public charities, private foundations, and mutual benefit organizations.

Women & Children Health Policy
This course gives a historical account of roles played by government and health policy development for mothers and children, family planning, maternal and infant health, preschool, school-age, and adolescent health. It also addresses the biological mechanisms that underpin human reproduction, infertility, and contraception.

Natural Resource Economics
This course deals with the economic principles and policy issues in the use of exhaustible and renewable resources including fossil fuels, water, minerals, fisheries, forests, and biodiversity. It considers the management of natural resources on a regional and international scale. It explains how public, economic, and political choices affect environmental degradation and natural resources.

This course of circular economy explores the design and promotion of products that last and that can be reused, repaired and remanufactured. Circular economy is a production and consumption model that ensures sustainable growth over time. This course deals with the performance and problems of developing countries in relation to growth, employment, structural change, and human development. METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education
This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma.
